Leung Fung-yee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, gave a speech titled "Constructing Fintech Ecosystems to Shape the Future of Finance" at the Greenwich Economic Forum (Hong Kong), stating that DLT should be applied to virtual assets in the financial market. If you ask central bankers and economists whether virtual assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum have intrinsic value, most of them will deny it, and I do not disagree with their position. Although the issue of intrinsic value is still debated by all parties, the fact is that Bitcoin has gone through many cycles of prosperity and decline in the past 15 years, which proves its ability to survive as an alternative asset. What is even more certain is that as the underlying technology of Bitcoin, DLT will withstand the test of time. Leung Fung-yee also said that the NFT craze may have subsided, but the relevant technology is gradually being applied to the world of tangible assets, and advocates are increasingly discussing how decentralized finance (DeFi) can inject new life into tangible assets in recent years, and tangible assets are gradually being tokenized.
