Bank for International Settlements: More and more central banks are exploring CBDC
A survey released by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) on Friday showed that an increasing number of central banks are exploring central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Of the 86 banks surveyed, 94% said they are researching digital versions of their national currencies. In a survey conducted by the BIS in 2021, 90% of the 81 banks surveyed said they were conducting related research.The surveyed banks also indicated that they are more likely to issue wholesale CBDCs than retail CBDCs in the next six years. Wholesale versions will only be open to banks and financial institutions, while retail versions will be available for everyday use by the public.
