OpenAI CTO: GPT-5 is expected to be launched at the end of 2025 or early 2026

According to a report from Wall Street News on June 24th, Mira Murati, Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI, revealed that the company is developing a new generation of artificial intelligence model, GPT-5, which is expected to be launched at the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026, and achieve doctoral-level intelligence in specific tasks, marking another significant leap in artificial intelligence technology. It is reported that GPT-5, with internal code names "Gobi" and "Arrakis", is a multimodal model with 52 trillion parameters, while the previous generation GPT-4 had about 2 trillion parameters. This huge parameter scale implies its potential powerful ability. Murati compared the progress from GPT-4 to GPT-5 to the leap from high school level to college level, indicating that the new model will have significant improvements in complexity and capabilities. It is worth mentioning that this release time is significantly different from earlier rumors. The market had predicted that GPT-5 might be released at the end of 2023 or in the summer of 2024, but Murati's latest statement delayed the time to the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has emphasized that there is currently no fixed release schedule.
