North Korean hackers infiltrated cryptocurrency job positions by forging resumes, generating $600 million in annual revenue for North Korea through this "quiet war". According to a United Nations report, over 4,000 North Koreans were sent into Western technology industries, including the cryptocurrency industry, to steal sensitive data, carry out hacking attacks, and steal assets. These fraudulent recruitment practices pose a significant threat to the cryptocurrency industry, especially against the backdrop of its increasing popularity. Taylor Monahan, a security researcher at MetaMask, said that North Korea generates revenue through illegal sale of resources, IT work, and hacking attacks. According to Erin Plante, Vice President of Chainalysis, there is evidence that some of North Korea's funding for its nuclear weapons program comes from hacking cryptocurrency websites, such as the Lazarus Group's attack on the Ronin bridge in 2022, which obtained $540 million.
