Mortal Kombat 1 announced its new Khaos Reigns expansion, which will be released on September 24, 2024. The expansion will feature six new DLC fighters with Animalities. However, Xbox players continued complaining about issues even after Mortal Kombat’s update on July 23rd.
NetherRealm Studios, the developer of the game, revealed its upcoming Khaos Reigns expansion at Mortal Kombat 1 Year 2’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con. NetherRealm announced that the Year 2 Khaos Reigns expansion will be released on September 24, 2024, and will feature six new DLC characters with animations and more content.
NetherRealm Studios reveals Mortal Kombat Year 2 expansion details
Mortal Kombat 1 is a fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios. It is the twelfth main installment in the Mortal Kombat series published by Warner Bros. NetherRealm’s announcement of the Year 2 expansion pack continues a trend that started in previous Mortal Kombat games. The Year 2 DLC expansion introduced more fighters and content to the game, similar to Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath DLC.
NetherRealm revealed that the new expansion DLC will be known as Khaos Reigns at the San Diego Comic-Con. The expansion introduced six new characters into the game, resembling the first Kombat Pack released in 2023. In the previous Kombat Pack, the game introduced Homelander, Omni-man, Ermac, Peacemaker, Takeda, and Quan Chi. NetherRealm announced that Mortal Kombat 1’s Khaos Reigns expansion will introduce Cyrax, Noob Saibot, Sektor, Conan the Barbarian, Ghost Face, and the T-1000.
NetherRealm also revealed that these characters will have Animalities. Animalities are a variation of the game’s iconic finishing move, Fatalities. The Animalities will allow the characters to transform into animals before using their new animal form to perform brutal and gory finishing moves on their opponents. However, while the announcement revealed all the characters added in the latest expansion, it did not include the exact date that Conan the Barbarian, Ghost Face, and T-1000 will be released.
Xbox players call for Mortal Kombat issues to be fixed
Mortal Kombat 1 rolled out updates to patch issues with the game on July 23rd. The patch addressed some bugs that affected some game characters and others that only affected Xbox players. The patch featured fixes for the Xbox Series S|X online matchmaking crash, which did not allow Xbox players to play the game seamlessly online. However, the developer provided a workaround on their Xbox support page. NetherRealm also stated that they were working on a permanent fix for the issue.
Despite the recent patch updates rolled out by NetherRealm Studios, Xbox players continued to complain about the bugs on social media. Several players complained about being kicked out of online matches. One such player, MauricioDittri1 , stated that they were still unable to “play a single online match since the patch came out.”
