  • Ryan Salame requests a 45-day delay for emergency surgery after a dog bite.
  • Salame seeks to move his self-surrender date from August 29 to October 13.
  • The Former FTX co-CEO pleaded guilty to criminal charges.

Former FTX executive Ryan Salame is seeking a 45-day postponement of his prison sentence, citing the need for emergency surgery following a dog bite. Salame, who pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange, filed the request in a New York federal court.

Salame’s legal team requested that his self-surrender date be moved from August 29 to October 13 to allow him to receive urgent medical treatment.

In a July 26 filing, the team asked that his self-surrender date be delayed from Aug. 29 to Oct. 13 “so that he may undergo urgent and necessary medical treatment and surgery.”

The former FTX Digital Markets co-CEO was attacked by a German shepherd on June 29 during a visit to a friend’s house. Although portions of the submitted document were redacted, the filing noted a physician’s visit on July 3 and treatment recommendations on July 24.

On the day of the attack, Salame posted on X (formerly Twitter), expressing concerns about receiving unbiased medical care due to the surgeon’s political views. Despite his injuries, he mentioned following the Bitcoin 2024 conference and preparing for future interviews.

Salame was among the first FTX executives to be sentenced and did not testify at Bankman-Fried’s trial. In September, he pleaded guilty to political conspiracy and operating unlicensed financial businesses.

Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried received a 25-year sentence in March for criminal activities that resulted in the collapse of the now-defunct crypto exchange FTX. However, he has appealed the court ruling. Other FTX associates, Gary Wang and Nishad Singh, are expected to be sentenced later this year. As of press time, the sentencing date for former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison has not been determined.
