Infamous Iron Man Funko Pop surges in price amid Marvel’s Dr. Doom announcement

Marvel announced that Robert Downey Jr. has returned to the MCU as Dr. Doom. This announcement caused Iron Man Funko Pop prices to surge. The Infamous Iron Man Funko Pop now retails on eBay for $300.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shocked fans with the announcement on July 28th during the Marvel Studios SDCC Hall H event. 

Marvel announced a dramatic setting where Robert Downey Jr. revealed himself to the crowd by removing Dr. Doom’s mask. The video was published on X and has garnered upwards of 4 million views as of the time of this publication.

Infamous Iron Man Funko Pop retails for $300 on eBay

Marvel released the Infamous Iron Man Funko Pop in 2020. After Robert Downey Jr. was announced to take up Dr. Doom’s role, the value of these Infamous Iron Man Funko Pops has significantly surged. Marvel fans who got their hands on these pops before the announcement have listed the pops at exorbitant prices.

One particular listing retails the Funko Pop with a protective case for $280. The listing currently has 44 bids and more than 1,000 impressions in the last 24 hours. Another listing with 800 impressions retails a similar Fanko Pop for $300 and has garnered close to 70 bids.

Robert Downey Jr. rejoins MCU as Dr. Doom

Robert Downey Jr. is an iconic actor in the MCU. He played the Iron Man role in Marvel for more than ten years as Tony Stark across various Marvel films. However, Iron Man died in Avengers: Endgame in 2019 while fighting Thanos, the main antagonist in the film.

Doctor Doom, or Victor Von Doom, is among the most notorious villains in Marvel, often dubbed the greatest villain in fiction. The villain is expected to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Doomsday films. The decision to have Robert Downey Jr. play the villain has sparked controversies and confusion online. Many fans criticized this contrast, but comics reveal there have been a lot of crossovers between Iron Man and Dr. Doom.

Some fans speculate that Dr. Doom will have no links to Iron Man. However, others suggest Dr. Doom is an evil multiverse version of Tony Stark. Infamous Iron Man comics hint that Stark falls into a coma after Civil War 2 events, prompting Victor Von Doom to take his place. Doctor Doom creates Iron Man armor and becomes Infamous Iron Man.

Downey’s Dr. Doom role replaced that of Kang the Conqueror, the supervillain in The Fantastic Four. In 2022, Marvel revealed that Kang the Conqueror would appear in the next Avengers film, Kang Dynasty, as the main villain. However, the film has now been rebranded as Doomsday. In December 2023, Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, prompting Marvel to cut ties with the actor.
