MAGA meme coin surges after Trump reveals 'The DeFiant Ones'
Donald Trump has introduced a new decentralized finance (DeFi) initiative called “The DeFiant Ones” on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The project is led by his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, and aims to challenge traditional financial institutions while empowering the average American.
Although specific details about the project remain limited, Trump’s announcement has already sparked significant speculation.
Eric Trump has hinted at the concept of “digital real estate,” suggesting that the project could involve selling digitised assets in the metaverse or tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs).
This speculation has led to discussions on whether the initiative might introduce a new meme coin or focus on tokenizing tangible assets.
Despite the lack of clarity surrounding the project, the MAGA (CRYPTO:TRUMP) meme coin experienced a sharp increase in value, surging by nearly 21% within 24 hours of the announcement.
However, it is important to note that this meme coin has no official ties to Donald Trump or the new DeFi initiative.
This announcement marks a significant shift in Trump’s stance on cryptocurrency.
During his presidency, Trump was openly critical of digital currencies, even labeling Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) as a scam.
However, his recent statements have shown a more favorable attitude towards crypto.
Last month, Trump spoke at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, where he promised to fire SEC Chair Gary Gensler if he wins the election.
Additionally, Trump raised $25 million through the Bitcoin Conference and suggested that Bitcoin could be used to address the US’s national debt.
Moreover, Trump’s campaign has embraced cryptocurrencies by accepting donations in Bitcoin, Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH), XRP (CRYPTO:XRP), and USDC (CRYPTO:USDC) since May.
As of the second quarter, the campaign has accumulated $4 million in crypto contributions, reflecting a growing acceptance of digital assets within his political strategy.
At the time of reporting, the MAGA (TRUMP) price was $3.85.
