Thailand Seizes Illegal Bitcoin Mining Facility After Rampant Power Outages

On Sunday, local media outlets reported that Thai authorities have raided an illegal Bitcoin mining rig in the west of Bangkok following complaints of frequent power outages in the area.
The development marks the fourth time authorities have busted an illegal Bitcoin mining operation around the same region this year. It follows a recent high-profile clampdown that led to the seizure of 650 crypto mining devices worth over $5 million and the arrest of three individuals.
Thailand Continues to Crack Down on Illegal Bitcoin Mining
According to a South China Morning Post (SCMP) report , Thai police and officials from the Provincial Electricity Authorities (PEA) raided the facility after obtaining a house search warrant on Friday.

Chanwong said a company had rented the house for four months, but reports of power blackouts surfaced early last month when the rig likely became fully operational.
While the officer didn’t specify the monetary value of the illegal mining rig, he clarified that the company had likely moved most of the equipment on Thursday when authorities tried to access the house but were denied entry by a guard. The company reportedly abandoned the facility, leaving a huge electricity bill that had only been paid partially.
Per the report, the authorities arrested no one in the raid.
