US State Louisiana Makes History: Receives First Bitcoin (BTC) Payment!

In the US, states continue to take innovative steps in the field of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. The latest move at this point came from the state of Louisiana.
Accordingly, the Louisiana government took an important step in this field by accepting the first cryptocurrency payment.
Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming announced that state residents can now pay for government services using Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Lightning Network, and USD Coin (USDC).
First Bitcoin Payment Made!
Louisiana Treasurer John Fleming announced in a press release that state residents can now pay with Bitcoin, Lightning Bitcoin, and USDC.
Fleming noted that the state had made its first crypto transaction, a fine paid to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries via the Lightning Network.
Pointing out that this new payment option provides greater flexibility for residents using state services, the minister noted that although payments can be made in crypto, the government will receive all funds in US dollars.
“In today's digital age, government systems must evolve and embrace new technologies.
By introducing cryptocurrency as a payment option, we are not just innovating; we are providing our citizens with flexibility and freedom in interacting with government services.”
