Streaming DePin network Mawari raises $10.8 million to boost its spatial computing capabilities
Mawari raised $10.8 million in its latest round of funding, led by Anfield LTD, Borderless Capital, and 1kx.
Located in Los Altos, California, Mawari is a decentralized content delivery network that helps creators create immersive experiences to engage audiences. As a pioneer in 3D streaming, Mawari has three patents, 11 more pending, and 40 customers including KDDI, Netflix and BMW.
Mawari Network, a DePIN pioneering the next generation of spatial computing, has raised $10.8 million in a strategic round led by Anfield LTD, Borderless Capital and 1kx. These investors include Accord Ventures, Animoca Brands Japan, Blockchange Ventures, Draper Dragon, iAngels, Mulana Ventures, Parami investors, Samsung Next and Waldo Holdings, as well as well-known angel investors Ivan Bright, Joshua Frank, Pete Townsend and Sean Carey.
Investors and operators from the Web2 and Web3 space support Mawari’s seven years of technology in streaming immersive experiences, and its vision to quickly and affordably deliver 3D content to devices around the world through DePIN technology.
Mawari leverages a global network of GPUs to stream 3D content in real time to spatial computing devices such as Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Orion AR glasses, and overcomes the limitations of traditional centralized networks with Web3 technologies such as DePIN. Mawari is focused on providing scalable infrastructure for real-time 3D applications, solving core challenges in the spatial computing industry, formerly known as XR. Since its founding in 2017, Mawari has launched the Mawari Network, a decentralized physical infrastructure network that provides decentralized compute and storage resources optimized for AR/VR experiences.
“Every time I look at what Mawari has accomplished, I’m reminded of how exciting the future of spatial computing will be,” said Sean Carey, co-founder of Helium and partner at Borderless Capital. “Luis and the team have quietly built real technology over the past seven years and have an amazing system.”
“As an early pioneer in spatial computing, Mawari is one of the first successful Web2 companies to apply blockchain and decentralized technologies to drive innovation, efficiency, and user experience,” said Christopher Heymann, Founding Partner of 1kx. “They have a deep understanding of the huge potential of decentralized computing in the future of content delivery, and we are excited to support them on this journey.”
Mawari will use the funds to expand into new markets, and the team will continue to improve the spatial streaming SDK and increase R&D investment to maintain its advantage in the competition of decentralized spatial computing. In addition, Mawari will strengthen business development and expand its customer base, especially in the growing field of spatial computing devices and programming in Asia and the Americas.
“Our vision has always been to make immersive experiences accessible to everyone, and this investment will open the platform for a wider community to build the 3D Internet with us,” said Luis Oscar Ramirez, Founder and CEO of Mawari.
Mawari is a pioneer in 3D streaming, with three patents and 11 more pending, and current customers include global brands such as T-Mobile, Sapporo, KDDI, Netflix and BMW. Initially operating on a bootstrapped basis with an average annual revenue of approximately $1.5 million, Mawari plans to conduct node license sales in the fourth quarter of 2024 to decentralize and scale its spatial computing network.
Mawari's solution consists of two core components: the Spatial Streaming SDK and the Mawari Network. The Spatial Streaming SDK is a powerful toolkit that integrates seamlessly with popular development environments such as Unity and Unreal Engine, allowing creators to focus on creating engaging content without worrying about the complexity of the backend.
The Mawari Network is a decentralized GPU-powered content delivery network designed specifically for spatial computing. It utilizes globally distributed GPU nodes, strategically located close to end users to ensure low latency and optimal performance. This architecture enables efficient distribution and scaling of spatial content, enabling a seamless, high-quality experience for users around the world.
