Binance Head Thanks Nigeria for releasing Tigran Gambaryan
the regional head of Binance, Kyrylo Khomiakov, has publicly thanked the Nigerian government for the release of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance employee who was previously detained in the country.
Yesterday, the Nigerian government released Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan from jail after dropping the money laundering charges against him. Tigran spent nearly eight months in jail after he was arrested in Feb. 2024 during a peace-making trip to meet with the officials.
In a heartfelt tweet, Kyrylo Khomiakov expressed relief and gratitude following the release.
He praised Gambaryan’s strength during his difficult time in jail, saying, “Tigran showed immense strength during this period, and we commend his resilience.”
Khomiakov also mentioned that Gambaryan’s health is a “top priority”, and glad he can now get the medical care he needs and spend time with his family.
It is no news that Gambaryan’s health had declined during his time in jail. There is even a viral video of him limping to court and looking distressed as he expressed his frustration.
Tigran’s situation led to rage and criticism against the Nigerian government. Lawmakers in the U.S. and others around the world also had been vocal about their concerns for months, urging Nigeria to release the American citizen. This pressure from the public is likely part of what led to the government’s decision to let him go home.
However, Khomiakov said the company looks forward to moving past the situation and remains “committed to working with global regulators to ensure compliance and transparency in the digital asset space.”
He also noted Nigeria’s potential in blockchain technology, stating, “We aim to play a constructive role in this effort.”
