Tether USDT Usage Shifting Toward EMEA Time Zones, Study Shows
On November 1, Bloomberg reported that research shows that Tether (USDT) usage is shifting to the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) time zone, especially in countries that lack access to the global banking system, such as Russia and Iran.Chainalysis data shows that between January and October of this year, newly activated USDT wallets were concentrated between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. UTC, aligning with daytime hours in Moscow, Tehran and Istanbul.
The use of USDT is raising regulatory concerns as the U.S. ramps up its investigations into Tether, particularly in response to its potential involvement in anti-money laundering and sanctions.Tether's head of economics, Philip Gradwell, said that the EMEA region has a stable share of USDT activity, but that USDT is becoming an important tool for cross-border payments and storage of value in emerging markets such as Africa .
