US Space Force major seeks Bitcoin advisor role
Jason Lowery, a U.S. Space Force major and advocate for Bitcoin’s (CRYPTO:BTC) strategic value, has applied for a military advisor position within the National Security Council (NSC) or the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP).
"I can confirm that I have submitted an application to serve as a military advisor on the National Security Council (NSC) and/or the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP)," announced Lowery in a post on X.
He emphasised his aim to advise the Department of Defense on the national significance of Proof-of-Work (PoW) technology and propose policies for a national Bitcoin reserve and the establishment of a U.S. Hash Force.
“I’m not sure if I’ll be accepted, but the application is in. If you’re supportive of this position, your advocacy is appreciated,” Lowery added.
His post followed support from a user on X who recommended him for the advisory role to Senator Cynthia Lummis.
President-elect Donald Trump has proposed a national Bitcoin reserve as part of his strategy to strengthen U.S. leadership in cryptocurrency.
This initiative may include maintaining and potentially expanding current government Bitcoin holdings, serving as a strategic counter to other nations' cryptocurrency advancements.
Senator Lummis has also backed a national Bitcoin strategy, introducing the Bitcoin Act in July.
The act aims to fortify the U.S. dollar and manage national debt by authorising the U.S. Treasury to acquire up to 1 million Bitcoin over five years.
The purchase would represent about 5% of the total Bitcoin supply, funded through existing Federal Reserve and Treasury resources.
André Dragosch, European head of research at Bitwise, noted on X that the likelihood of the U.S. adopting a national Bitcoin reserve has surpassed 50%, based on Polymarket data.
At the time of writing, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $92,262.03.
