Namecheap, a popular domain registration company, has hit a major milestone
The company has now earned over $73 million in Bitcoin (BTC) after processing an impressive 1.1 million transactions in the digital currency.
This shows just how far Bitcoin has come and how it’s making a big impact on businesses around the world. Are they the only ones making Bitcoin revenue?
Namecheap’s $73 Million Milestone in Bitcoin Payments
For those who might not know, Namecheap is a company that helps people buy domain names for websites. In the past, you would have to pay for a domain name using traditional methods, like credit cards. But Namecheap has let people use Bitcoin as payment for years. And now, they’re seeing huge success with it.

Namecheap has been accepting Bitcoin payments for a long time and was the first domain registrar to do so, starting in 2013 through BitPay . In 2020, they partnered with BTCPay to give customers even more payment options and flexibility. BTCPay also serves as a backup in case there are problems with other Bitcoin payment platforms.
More About the Namecheap & BitPay Partnership
According to a blog post from BitPay, here are some key tools they used during the process:
- BTCPay Server – An open-source web server compatible with BitPay’s API, allowing us to create invoices, process payments, issue refunds, and more.
- PostgreSQL – The database that stores data for BTCPay Server.
- NBXplorer – A REST interface over Bitcoin Core that enables Bitcoin transactions (UTXO) , an open-source solution.
- Bitcoin Core – A Bitcoin node that verifies transactions and provides a soft wallet, open-source under the MIT License.
The first BTCPay Server transaction on Namecheap took place on May 18, 2020. Since then, we’ve seen:
- 1.1 million transactions.
- Over 500,000 users.
- More than $73 million in revenue.
- Payments from over 200 countries around the world.
