US government considers sanctions on Chinese AI company DeepSeek
according to Decrypt, the Trump administration is considering restrictions on Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek, which could cut off its access to American technology and prohibit Americans from using its services. This move stems from DeepSeek's release of the DeepSeek-V3 model in January this year, which achieved performance comparable to its American competitors for only about $6 million, raising national security concerns. The US Congressional China Commission accused DeepSeek of secretly leaking American user data and potentially using around 60,000 Nvidia chips (including 20,000 chips subject to export controls) to train its model.
